Gloria’s Answer

Hi hvjvj,

In the US, some doctors start a private practice after completing all of their requirements to become a physician. Those private practices are small businesses. They are the owner and operator of that business, hiring everyone along with using their own expertise as a cornerstone of the business. My question to you about would be - how do you define commerce? Do you see it as the selling of a product? Doctors are selling their own services and knowledge which is also commerce.

Gloria
Thank you comment icon This is also somewhat the case in the UK NHS. GPs (local/family doctors) tend to be run by the doctors as "partners", and as well as the medical side of things, also have to look after the financial side of the practice. There's issues with the system and it's increasingly criticized, but many do run like that. Joseph Neilson

I am glad to hear that you are interested to be a doctor or work in commerce field. These are 2 very different kind of work.
To be a doctor, you would provide medical advice to the patients to help them to recover. There are many different kinds of specialised in medical field as well, each have deep understanding and focus on different organs or patients, e.g. Pediatrics, Gastroenterology, etc.
In commerce fields, there are a different aspect as well. Would you like to work as International Trade company, Commercial Banks, etc.? This job would have a lot of interaction between suppliers and buyers.
i suggest you could consider approach below:
1. Find out more information on these jobs online
2. Try to speak to someone who is really working in these fields and acquire better understanding. Would you like to speak to you family doctor to understand his or daily work?
3. Seek advice from your parents or career counsellor in your school?
4. Find out the entry criteria of the college
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Please, note the following concerning choosing medicine or
commerce :-
1. Analyse the two streams, medicine or commerce one by one.
2. Consider your INTEREST and
KNOWLEDGE in each of them.
3. Have in mind that each of them
has its peculiar subjects/courses.
For example, medicine goes along
with science courses. On the other
hand, commerce goes with courses
on business.
4. Especially, consider how perfect
you are good in studying various
courses relating to each of the streams.

Best wishes to you.
