How long did it take you to find your career calling? How did you define the should and must of life?
I know someone who is stuck at the crossroad of should and must. He dropped out during 3rd year university, and he quit his insurance broker job. He is currently doing nothing, and I know he's looking for his calling. How long does this take? I know it doesn't come at a snap. I just want to see if others have struggled. Another person has been constantly pressuring him to go do something with his life. #career-counseling #career-choice

I have no personal experience like this and have known few who did, so I can only offer observation from my 62 years. The answer to how long does it take is that everyone is different so some get it right away and some don’t get it at all. The person who provided your other answer (Ken) appears to be very experienced in this and I would defer to his recommendations.
As a third-party I would guess that he was on a path that he may or may not have been enjoying, but something built up over time and popped or maybe just occurred that was significant enough to derail his progress. Lots of people lose their way at times but this seems to be a little more serious. I would recommend that pressuring him is not good, and that the first few steps Ken suggested be attempted. I also think that he already has the most important thing he needs---you and others who care for him. Good luck.

Hi Michelle!
A person going through this difficulty may be doing it for various reasons, possibly even unknown to him. Sometimes it is good to seek assistance from an organization that is set up to assist in such situations. Here is an organization which might be able to help. Having this person stop by and talk to them would be greatly helpful. An in person conversation is always best.

I was involved with a similar organization in Cleveland in which we helped people to sort things out and help them to get on a better track and into a job.
Let me know if and how this might be of help. Keep me posted. I would like to follow your progress.

Hi Michelle,
My answer is bit longish as I have two known friends who are going through this kind of time for NO reasons/faults of their own (apparently).
A friend of mine with a decent background (family, education and job) with proven track of performance in MEA market over a decade plus. He was successful in colloquial understanding (specially in India). He had everything a common man wants. suddenly, time or I would like say that fate did take an ugly turn, came back to India with another decent job which he eventually lost due to market dynamics. Since then he has been trying and trying, hard but it appears that dark tunnel is far too long. He got job twice, went abroad but again those also lasted not more than 3 months or so each time. He is a very strong man and struggling to make things work. I can only say that he has left no stone un-turned to change this impasse as he believes in work.
Second story is that of an army veteran, highly educated with proven prowess at c-level, had a dream run in military but moved out because of health reasons. Post retirement, he did well for couple of years in corporate and suddenly luck appears to have dried out for him. Come what may, things don't fall in place and mind you many people with much inferior quality in all respects are doing well! He understands the Indian astrology, believes in karmic cycle and also believes in the supremacy of good and righteous deeds! So he continues his struggle with no sign of leaving. Well, success has been elusively away!
Now can anyone explain these two widely spaced events in any manner?
In India, these things are explained and accepted as part of karmic cycle, one has to go through. These are well established and proven records are available as par part of Astrological Sciences (like Palm Reading, Janam Kundali (complete prediction of life cycle based on date, time and place of birth)). Although there is another school which believes that there is nothing called 'karma'. Is there any other theory which can explain these inexplicable turn of events for these two gentlemen? I know NONE!
I may have sounded bit negative in these two stories. But I would say that we have a lot to learn from these two guys: Never say Die! Have faith: things will fall in place, it's just matter of time. Remember: This too shall pass! Keep his hope alive and continue doing what you are supposed to do.
All the very Best!
