Hi Emma,
I used to own a business where wedding planning was a majority of my time and income. If you are working for someone else, your flexibility depends on your function within the company. Wedding planning requires a lot of...planning. Usually the wedding coordinator or owner would meet directly with the couple to discern what they like, what they need, their budget and what your company can provide for their special day. Then that information is brought back to the team to plan what is needed. Some event employees only work the day of the event to help with set-up, assist running the event, and breakdown. Some event employees work more on the backend of the planning side to reserve or order supplies, decor, lighting, etc. for the wedding. As a wedding planner employee, be prepared to work mostly on weekends and usually all day. In regards to flexibility, that would be something to discuss directly with the owner on when you could or could not be available. You may be able to work out assisting with a different part of the business that didn't require you to be at every event, such as bookkeeping, administrative work, customer service or inventory/warehouse work.
