Do informational interviews with professionals in the types of jobs you are considering. Many alumni will be willing to speak with you or even meet you in person.

There are many ways to learn more about different accounting fields including internships, on campus job fairs and listening to on campus speakers. If your school has a Beta Alpha Psi program, this is a great resource. My local chapter organized different firms coming to speak on campus and I always found this very informative. As a professional, I've also appreciated the opportunity to come back and speak with students and tell them about my job and why I chose the audit profession.

You should take classes and get an internship and or volunteer to get a feeling for the different areas.
I took a tax class in college as part of my accounting program and liked it.
Definitely try and get an internship with an accounting firm or the accounting department of a company. Experience will help you get a feel for what you like, and the internship can maybe lead to a job after school.
Next year, you can also volunteer as a tax preparer with VITA at your school (during January through April) : http://www.towson.edu/cbe/outreach/tax.html. When you prepare tax returns you can see if you like tax accounting.
