Accounting student at Towson university #accounting

Thank you comment icon I think there is no more worth than health. If you are fit than you will perform your task in a good way that's what the companies want. Because they don't want to pay their employees for poor performance. The activities which involves your mental and physical health, all of these will have a better impact. Mubashar

Rose’s Answer

Join a club or association that is business oriented. You can often join professional associations at a free or reduced student rate and become a campus ambassador. Take a leadership position in a club, team, or association if you can. Elected positions are great, but don't overlook committee work.

I agree with the above statements! I would add that leadership experience in one club is better than being a member of multiple. I also think that internships and professional experience can make you stand out even more than clubs.

Katie’s Answer

Companies are looking for extracurricular activities such as volunteer work, professional organizations, and internships. Companies also like to see leadership roles within those activities. Professional organizations offer a great way for a young professional to network within their school and with professionals currently in the workforce.

Trisha’s Answer

I agree with all the previous comments. Companies are looking for examples of learning outside of the classroom. I would suggest being part of a club/activity that helps you explore your career interests and join another that allows you to showcase your life outside of the classroom. For example, join a business-oriented club and if you can, also take part in sports, drama, or volunteering activities. This will give companies an all-around view of who you and can help set you apart from others!

Kevin’s Answer

Hi Ayomide!

This is a very important question and everyone above me has answered this well. In my personal experience I found it was helpful to have leadership experiences but it is also important to get involved with things you are passionate about even if it isn't a leadership role. Being able to show that you are interested and things and can talk about them can be very helpful in interviews and on resumes. Like the people above me said volunteering is usually looked upon as a positive experience that employees like to see.

Ryann’s Answer

I agree with a lot of the responses above! I think companies are looking to see that you are a well-rounded person that has other interests besides school. I think having a passion/interest in other areas is what they are looking to see. Some examples could be: volunteering, clubs, team events, sports, ext. I think it's important from my experience to take on a leadership role in an extracurricular activity that you enjoy.
