Look into your own city and state hiring for road construction, you may get better benefits and plenty of experience to go with it.

Hi, Sophie!
I love that you are looking into getting into a male dominated industry! At your age, there may be limited physical work you are able to do at this time due to labor restrictions, but you may want to get into working for a construction office. This would allow you a behind the scenes look at what is going on in the industry while giving you experience for your resume in both construction and administrative work.

Hi Sophie,
My family has had a construction company for over 50 years. I love that you are trying to get into construction, there definitely is a short fall of awesome women in the field. Spring is the perfect time because that is when construction really kicks up for the season! You can do several things, if you want to get straight into the field, start with asking if they need runners, or flaggers. As Tiffany said above you can also get in as an admin or office working. Or you can see if the local companies are looking for an apprentice. There is so many jobs with in construction both in the office and out, they are always looking for people. Next I would recommend looking near you for school programs that can teach trade skills. Depending on the type of construction you want to perform, many schools can teach you some valuable skills that will help you get the job. My family puts in the sewer system in neighborhoods before they build the houses, and my brother builds the houses, but there are so many other types of construction to get into. Best wishes to you as you embark on your future, no matter what you choose to do.
