Has anybody here gone to college in Hawaii?
I have looked at some of the colleges in Hawaii and if I could go there I think I would. I live in Minnesota so I would have some extra fees but besides that, does anybody know what a college there is like? I'm a bit interested in the UH at Manoa especially.

Hi Violet!
My sister went to school at UH Manoa so I have some background into the different colleges in Hawaii.
I would definitely say UH Manoa is the quote on quote "best" college in Hawaii. It is right near downtown Honolulu on Oahuso you can still have a nightlife outside of the beaches. UH Manoa is going to be best for students looking for a bigger school experience in Hawaii (13,000 undegrad). The "bigger" school experience here has all the frat/sorority and extracurriculars that every college has.
If you are looking for a smaller school experience Uh Hilo and Chaminade University of Honolulu are also great options. Both are around 1-2k students so you will get to know all of your classmates very well. Neither offer as many extracurriculars as Manoa however they do offer a much beeter student to faculty ratio. You will get a better individual school experience.
Overall, I would say it depends on what you are looking for. UH Manoa is going to be the party school/big school experience whereas Hilo and Chaminade offer a better individualistic classroom experience. Also, Manoa has more of a "afternoon at the beach" sort of vibe that Hilo or Chaminade offer.

Thank you, Bill. I was hoping that someone would know something about this college and it sounds like the right fit for me.

College in Hawaii is unreal. It is a memory you can never replicate. But, its important to note that not only is the college itself extremely expensive, the island is absurdly expensive. There are no affordable places to eat, drink, have fun, and as such you either must have a lot of money, work all the time, or really dedicate yourself to a minimalist lifestyle.
Thanks! Yes, this college and the island is very expensive and that will be largely taken into consideration.
