Brandon’s Answer

When it comes to writing, it takes a lot of time and dedication in order to perfect your own writing style. For some people, it is easy, they can easily think of the ideas in their head and plot out every single detail from the beginning to the end. For others, it might take a lot longer, needing to write out everything by hand taking more time in order to select and choose specific details to include into the written product.

Here are some tips that you can take in order to become a successful writer:

Brandon recommends the following next steps:

Write everyday. In order to become a successful writer, you will need a lot of practice in order to hone your own craft. By doing so, you can see what you need to improve on by reading your own work.
Joining a writing group can help by allowing others to read and give honest feedback to your work. They can also allow you to read others works in comparison to your own.
Share your work on an online platform. Sharing your work will allow for more exposure and will help you garner an interested fanbase.
Read the works of others. This may be self explanatory, but by reading more, you can get more pointers of how you want to write your own material. This will reduce the mistakes that you will have when writing.
Don't be afraid of failure. In any profession failure may seem to be a short-term problem, however failures can only motivate you into doing better. Learn from any mistakes so that they will not happen in the future. Failures are sometimes for the best when it comes to improving your future works.

Mario D.’s Answer

A great way to become a successful writer is first learning how to outline.
If it is creative writing such as telling a story, and you need to organize the sequence of events then it would be good to create an outline. When I was writing Screenplays one of the things they did was create a list of scenes or sequences. Describe it as if it’s happening now.

1. Joe goes to the store - what does he do, see, or hear?
2. Joe bumps into the store clerk - what does he see and hear?
3. Joe is busy looking for his favorite snack - what does he do? What does he see? What does he hear?

Basically to answer your question is all good writing is rewriting. All good writing is outlining and being structured.
Some creative writers want to write from their gut and as a result they can wind up creating a big mess.

You become a good writer through the following:
1. Outlining
2. Rewriting
3. Structuring
4. Planning
5. Conceptualizing
6. Having fun as you write.

Why?

Because the story does have structure. When you are structured then your writing moves very quickly, and your story becomes very strong and formulated. It’s kind of like a rope and a rope gets tangled up. A writer has to be able to structure things in their head if they’re not going to structure it on paper.

It’s to my advice that every person use paper to structure it unless of course you’re amazing in your head gathering and sequencing ideas and facts. Even a good joke has three parts to it. Every good story has three parts to it.

So it depends on the kind of writing is it creative writing or journalism?

I’m not gonna give the sad answer of “practice.” This answer is not only boring it’s too fundamental and and people get lost in such an idea.

Learn to outline, and even blog posters outline. If you’re creating a Story learn to outline. Learn to brainstorm that data and information and converge it into a solid idea and concept. Study what makes a good story. I would look up heroes journey. It’s not the only method but it’s one method. There are many methods to come up with, and depending on what type of learner you are well dictate how well you work with a particular method.

Imagine a fire hydrant as your creativity as it’s bursting water everywhere.
Then take a tin can and put it around the water and suddenly you structure and guide the water where you want to go.

Creativity is nothing without structure and that’s what I want you to take away from today. If it’s too abstract some people may not be able to grab onto it. They may not be able to understand and comprehend it. If it’s abstract and you turn it into a solid structure then that is a completely different direction.
