Hello Ayomide. Excellent question.

As mentioned above, the main benefit of obtaining a CPA license is the progression of your career. It is very respected in the Accounting field and gives you many opportunities to gain successful jobs of your choice.

There is also benefits of studying for CPA exam while you are in school. I have taken all parts of the Exam while attending Graduate school. By lining up the parts of the Exam with the classes I was taking at the time, I was able to study for both of them. Studying for the CPA Exam complements knowledge you receive from classes and helps you to prepare for school exams. And, if there are any topics on a CPA Exam preparation materials that you are struggling with, you have an option of discussing those topics with your professors. While it is sometimes difficult to achieve, CPA license has many benefits throughout your accounting career in school and after you graduate.

Hi Astrid! Great question. For many public accounting firms your ability to be able to take the CPA is a huge factor in their determining whether or not to hire you. I know the CPA requirements vary by State so for me in California a requirement for taking CPA was that I complete 150 credit units (with certain ones in accounting, ethics etc.) or that I get a Masters. When I went through the recruiting process, how I was going to complete this CPA requirement was a question often asked during interviews. In addition, at some big four firms whether you will be promoted can be contingent on your passing the CPA exam. It is definitely helpful in differentiating yourself from other job applicants as well. While difficult it's definitely doable and can help a lot in getting the career of your choice!

Astrid’s Answer

A CPA degree opens doors for an accountant. As a CPA you have the same standing as a lawer in Tax/IRS court. You will be able to represent yourself and others in the tax court. Also a CPA tends to be able to have their own firm.
This is the most important pro of a CPA personally.

Emilio’s Answer

Being a CPA opens so many doors as an accountant. For example, if you work in public accounting having your CPA makes you eligible for promotions and opportunities if you wanted to transition out of public accounting.
