Lisa’s Answer

If you are able to locate a volunteer opportunity that is related to your career goals, then go for it. Many employers and institutions of higher learning like to see a well-rounded person. Volunteer work shows a commitment to your community, and the personal satisfaction of helping others is rewarding.

Patricia’s Answer

Search for volunteer opportunities that fit with your skills first and that will most likely align with your major. For example, could you volunteer at an after-care program like Boys and Girls Club, helping students with their math homework? Or work with a younger students on an business plan/pitch? Demonstrating your desire to give back to the community, honing your skills, or learning new skills, is a great way to stand out to future employers!

Brian’s Answer

Volunteering always looks great on resume as it shows you are a team player. Whether its volunteering for a good cause and helping with charities or doing things in your local community or if your talking about volunteering for free internship during the summer while your at college.

Employers love to see some experience so doing an internship would be great not only to determine if you like the field you are getting into but to help on your resume. Also, try to join as many social groups that you can at the college you attend to build your resume up. Good luck.

Thank you comment icon Hi Brian: Your comments are insightful. I agree that it shows you are a "team player". Thanks for sharing. Sheila Jordan
