Where can I get a cosmetology certificate if there is one? And what age should I start my career?

I'm a freshman and want to start my career soon. I specifically do hair and makeup. I have tons of experience with makeup and have already have my platform but not so many viewers I want to share my love with makeup and help others do their makeup. My goal is to finish high school and get a certificate so I can have my own business and soon after that start my own makeup line. #cosmetology #makeup #makeupartist

Hello Kimberly,

My mom is a cosmetologist, it takes a few months to finish school it all depends if you are a full-time student here are some steps on how to start.

1. Attend a beauty school licensed by the state of California
2. Complete the required training hours
3. Pass the California state licensure exam
4. Find an area of cosmetology you love

Hi Kimberly!

I love your ambition! There are some high schools that offer cosmetology programs that will cover many aspects of the business such as; Make up, skin care, hair and nail care. Also, If you prefer to enroll after graduation, I've taken the liberty to look up a few schools in your area..
1.Paul Mitchell The School Houston
2. Clio Professionals Beauty School
3. Institute of Cosmetology, Esthetics & Massage

Hopefully this helps you get started in your pursuit for excellence and I know you'll do great!

Best,

Hi Kimberly!

To obtain a cosmetology license, you can go to a local trade school in highschool if the option is available. I got my license that way here in Ohio. I went to a trade school that had my core highschool classes one half of the day and my cosmetology program the other half. In Ohio, we're required 1500 hours for a basic cosmetology license. 150 of those hours is your internship. So I did my schooling my junior and senior year of highschool and my internship the summer in between. I was able to get my license two weeks before I officially graduated. There's an advanced cosmetology license as well, which I believe you would need to own your own business (or at least have a better understanding of how to go about it). You can start your career in highschool if it's available and finish your hours for the advanced license after graduation. I hope this helps!

With that determination, you're set to do great things! I'm sure of it.

Good luck,
Chloe
