Is it wise to apply for an unpaid internship?

What criteria should I consider when I am applying for an unpaid internship? Indeed, I think the field that the company works on is in line with my expectation. However, it may cost a lot for me as it is unpaid that I would need to cover all the fee by myself like transportation fee and the fee generated due to my work. #internship

I believe that an internship is a great tool for entering a company and learning about real business, a big networking opportunity and the possibility of staying at the company in a full time job. It will be part of your resume that will be valuable for future employers.
You need to check the expenses, but if you are able to pay them go ahead! Or search for another opportunity that can offer a salary, just don´t miss the opportunity to have an internship experience.

I think it really depends on your financial situation and what kind of support system you have - taking an unpaid internship and then worrying about your finances while working will not be you working at your best level. If you have the funds to support yourself during that time or have financial assistance from other sources, taking an unpaid internship can open a lot of doors. I would recommend though looking for paid internships within your field or maybe even asking that company's recruiter if they can offer any kind of assistance - perhaps they could provide you with transportation.

Neha recommends the following next steps:

Look for paid internships within your field
Asking that company's recruiter if they can offer any kind of assistance - transport/food/equipment

I think you should definitely consider the opportunity as it can help you once you enter the workforce. I completed an unpaid internship in college and looked at my budget for the semester. I also considered my schedule during my internship, so I could look for part-time opportunities to help pay any expenses that I might incur. You may also want to search for any scholarships that might be available for the semester you wish to complete your internship. You can find out about scholarships by searching FastWeb or check with your Financial Aid Office.
