As a former journalist but with no experience with Bloomberg, I can tell you that first, you need to be a strong writer. There is a certain style and method for most journalist writing that you need to learn to start, and there are lots of colleges that offer degrees in this field. Next, you need experience that will help you develop your own style and stand out from the pack of people that do this job. Possibly most importantly you need an inquisitive mind that sees things that others might not and picks up on details that turn into news ...and you can not be afraid to talk with people.
In today's age, so much "journalism" is crowd sourced and newspapers have changed so much, I think this is a tougher career to get established in than it was a decade ago. You can still do it for sure, but think about how the world is changing as you might have to find different ways to fit into the new mold.
