Janice’s Answer

Hi Dajonah-

The best shoes are shoes that are the most comfortable to wear.
All health care facilities have a dress code that must be adhered to. In this policy, it will often describe what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. Typically, a gym shoe is discussed.
Nurses are on their feet most of their shift. It would be essential that you wear proper fitting shoes and socks that do not cause irritation.
My suggestion is to invest in a good pair of walking shoes and break them in.

Good luck!

Hi Dajonah!

My girlfriend is a nurse and she uses the Figs (New Balance 996 Unisex). She says that all her coworkers use the same shoe as is has the most support and is very durable. Plus they are a bit cheaper than most shoes designed for nurses and health care professionals.

MariaJose’s Answer

Hi Dajonah,

I’m a dentist and for my experience so far , I prefer white crocs than gym shoes. One of the reason is because they’re very comfortable to use the entire day (since you have to do so many steps per day) and the other reason is that they’re very easy to clean up daily.

Kim’s Answer

Dajonah,

I am soooo glad to see you are thinking about your feet! This also helps your back. I was a police officer, mostly on foot-patrol. I found that having my feet properly evaluated was very important. Did I over-pronate or under-pronate, was I flat-footed? Then, whatever shoes I bought, I removed the inserts and put in my own orthotic. There is a good selection of over-the-counter orthotics available. If those do not work for you, consider seeing a foot doctor. I also found that these worked for a while, and then my feet would start hurting again? Why? Because I had worn down the soles, and it was time for new shoes!

You don't have to get the most expensive shoes out there, but, get something good, then add the orthotic inserts that work best for you.
