What to do when you don't get the job you really wanted?

I interviewed for a position that I really want and am wondering how I should prepare if I don't get the position? Should I consider volunteering for this organization? Social media was brought up by one of the women that interviewed me, should I look for additional oppurtunities by following them on LinkedIn?

Don't give up on the job you really want... and don't assume that you won't get the job you interviewed for. If you need to interview better, practice, if your resume needs work, fix it and if you need additional skills, get them. Don't give up on what will fulfill you and make you happy.

Go for it!

So there is a lot of information for you from others but if you dont get the job. Just learn more about them and apply again when a job opens. Dont give up as you dont know if there was a more qualified person they actually hired. We have all been passed over at one time or another and it is how to pick yourself up and try again. you will succeed you just need to be patient.

Social media is great, go ahead and like them but be careful because sometimes this can me more stalkerish. When people interview they also look at your social media information as they google your name and if friends or you post things that are not private they can also be viewed. When my kids were in college i told them to block their information as you dont need people juding you on what was posted when you were 16.

Good luck and I hope you get the job.

If you don't get the position, seek out others like it (provided you really want that type of career). Keep trying. If you feel like your skill set might not be a good fit, it might be valuable to take a few classes in the areas in which you think you need some work. You can take a class a a local college or online... even brush up via webinar. The sky is the limit. Keep trying and, as the old saying goes, "if at first you don't succeed, try and try again!"

Stick with it. if you are passionate about a specific field, go for it. Any occupation has numerous jobs. While you may not have been chosen for your first job, there are plenty of positions that can keep you in the same field you were originally targeting. Be creative, and continue to push.

If you don't get the job, I wouldn't recommend trying to poke and prod at people related to the organization until the job appears. I'd recommend either finding a smaller company offering the same job, looking for a related internship, or developing your plans for backup jobs. You want to develop plans for all of the above to offer yourself the best selection of options.

In this day and age, every company has one or more competitors. So if you didn't get the job at one place, look at some of the competition and see if they have openings.

I would also recommend that you reach out to obtain feedback on why you were not selected. That can provide areas where you can work to get more experience so that when an opening comes up, you'll be ready.
