Hello! While you're still in school the best thing would be to apply for internship programs. If you are out of school or do not have many internship options near you, then try shadowing or volunteering. If you know anyone that currently does this for a living or if you find anyone via LinkedIn/Social Media; feel free to send a message expressing interest in their work and/or learning more about their profession, and/or if they have any advise to share on how they have gotten their experience as well. Hope this helps, best of luck!

Hi Bridget!
I think if you adhere to some of these answers you are on the right track!
If we think about interior design, it is not just design, but also about marketing! When you do not have a lot to offer, you need to market yourself to individuals or companies that are in the area of focus (interior design).
What you can do is bolster your social network! Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn!
Build a LinkedIn!
-Follow industry leaders.
-Read and post the articles relevant to your skill.
Maybe even take it a step further and find a friend whom is looking to re-design a room in their home and is willing to let you have a crack at it! Document that process then post on social networks.
Additionally, BE A MARKET EXPERT. Try to learn as much as you can about interior design, so that when you are meeting with industry experts they will be impressed and more inclined to work with/hire you.
Lastly, start applying to internships. If you are extremely determined to gain the experience, apply to unpaid internships. The experience will pay for itself in the future once you are in the industry.
I hope this helps!
Cheers,
Ian
Do you feel confident in your LinkedIn profile? If not, set a date for when you want it to be completed by.

Hello,
Do your research on some of the firm's you would like to work with and write to them telling them how you can be an asset to them (organization, skills in excel, dependable, flexible) whatever applies, why you are interested in interior design and what you hope to learn during your internship.
Good Luck!

Yes, being an interior designer definitely requires experience. I would suggest going on LinkedIn or just googling 'interior design internships' and start applying away. Make sure you have a resume that is appealing to one's eye and just click apply!
