Kyle’s Answer

Hi Nathan! UCSC in my opinion has the most beautiful campus compared to the other UC schools! If you love the nature and nice quiet walks through the forest, you should definitely consider going to UCSC. As a current college student, I believe that the environment that surrounds you will heavily impact your work flow, and since college can get hectic at times, having a beautiful and quiet surrounding will definitely help your mind ease.

Brandon’s Answer

Hi Nathan! As a current freshman at UCSC, one of the best part of UCSC is the nature. All around campus you are surrounded by lush trees and wildlife like turkeys, squirrels, and deers. There are many hiking trails and some paths leads you to hidden gems in the forest of UCSC. Another thing I really enjoy at UCSC is the OPERS field where there’s an open field and a view of Santa Cruz and the Pacific Ocean. Also, UCSC has top of the line research that students can participate in and a variety of clubs and student organizations to join from academic to culture related to sports clubs. To add on, UCSC has good Psychology, Linguistics, Biology, and Computer Science departments. Going back to top of the line research, on March 21, 2022 the first completed sequence of a human genome, covering each chromosome with no gaps, was discovered by Karen Miga, an assistant professor of Biomolecular Engineering at UC Santa Cruz, and Adam Phillippy, the head of the Genome Informatics Section and a senior investigator in the Computational and Statistical Genomics Branch at NHGRI. Here is a link to the article at UCSC's New Center: https://news.ucsc.edu/2022/03/t2t-genome.html. All in all, if you are debating whether you want to go to UCSC for college I recommend taking a tour of the campus and seeing if you like it there or not.
