How important is choosing a minor for political science?

I am a senior in high school planning on majoring in political science to possibly obtain a combined BA in Political Science with a Master's in Public Administration. I want to choose a minor that is highly employable but I am unsure which course to take. I love history and philosophy but I am not sure that those minors would be as useful as a minor in journalism or some type of economics or marketing. I also really like statistics but I do not think my college offers a minor in statistics. Overall, how important is choosing a minor? Do employers really look at them? #college #career #journalism #economics #college-minor #history #political-science

Minors are a way for you to compliment a major that is your main focus. For example, I was a history major with an advertising minor. So if you want to specialize in a particular field, look for things that complement that. For example, a business major may want to consider a minor in economics as the two are very related. An advertising major may want to have a minor in marketing.

For you, I'd suggest statistics or some other applied math. That would dramatically set you apart from other people later in your career as many of them focus on the humanities (political science) and shy away from math.

I wouldn't know, because I did my first studies in Argentina. I guess you have to have the degrees, but most importantly is to have a network of people that might land you in a job where you would like to work.
