Thank you comment icon Hi Thomas! Could you be more specific as to what career you are asking about? Chief Executive is a generic title that most companies have, and usually a few different types of them. What type of industry are you hoping to be an executive in? Thanks for clarifying! Hi Thomas,

It's nice to see that you have aspirations to become a CEO.

Firstly, you can go to any college and become a CEO. It would probably be best to major in a business related field so that you can have adequate knowledge regarding operations, strategy, etc. An MBA would probably be the most useful type of graduate degree for a CEO as well. Secondly, the work environment would depend on the company. If you are the CEO of a company, you definitely would have some input as to how to run the day to day operations. Thirdly, your pay and office space would also be dependent on the company.

Thomas,

You have high aspirations! Not many people can handle the stress and demands of being a CEO who are often associated as the face and name of a company. Since you'll be organizing and leading people, an extremely common piece of education for more and more corporate CEOs nowadays is an MBA (Master's in Business Administration). You'll also need strong people skills, the ability to influence others, and being able to learn new topics and concepts quickly.

Pay and workplace environment for CEOs depend on how successful the company is, or in other words, how successful your company is. Many people who start up local small businesses can be considered CEOs, and their pay can be minimal (only thousands of dollars per year) if they are a solo entrepreneur. On the other end of a spectrum, those lucky enough to become the CEO of a large corporation stand to make millions per year. For example, Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft Corporation, took in total pay of nearly $45 million in 2020, due to his company's success that year.

Hope this helps and good luck with your aspirations.
Alex
