Daily routine involves the safe and orderly flow of aircraft to either a runway or through a radar sector depending on type of facility you are assigned. You learn these skills through training at the FAA academy, OJT and familiarization with FAA order 7110.65. FAA has a hiring window coming in the middle to end of June.

Shifts mostly rotate: We start with one late shift (3-11, 4-Mid) then 1-9 or 12-8. Back at 6 or 7 the next morning for 2 days then a third day or Midwatch 10p-6a. During a shift you rotate through 4-6 positions you are qualified on in your area. 45-90 minutes on, 25-35 min off position depending on staffing. You may train someone or be trained depending on where you are. Traffic normally happens in waves of arrivals and departures depending on which sectors you work.
