Priyesh’s Answer

Thomas,
The main thing to focus on other than the usual things (grades, entrance exams, extra-curricular's, and college essays that focus on your uniqueness); is trying to find a college that best fits your personality, goals, and requirements. That means doing the research to try and figure out exactly what you want from your college experience. It also means working with your school counselor and trying not to spread yourself to thin. By that I mean, you don't have to apply to 20 schools. Find schools that you think you will have a good shot at getting into and a few "reaches." Then focus on making your applications to those schools as strong as possible. Also, do all you can to contact those schools and show your level of interest, talk to as many people as possible at those schools about what they are like.
I hope some of this has helped. Best of luck in your process.

Lauren’s Answer

Hi Thomas,

Depending on your age, you will want to generally have good grades and test scores in school and some extra curricular involvement. This will ensure that when it comes time to apply to colleges, you are an applicant that colleges would accept.

To get into the college you want, you will first want to do some research online to find out the specific requirements of the application and how the college determines applicant acceptance. For example, some colleges require that you submit essays and have a GPA of a certain amount like 3.8 out of 4.0, along with a certain score on state testing.

Then you should work with your school counselor or any other adults that may help you with college decisions, to ensure that you meet the qualifications and submit the application on time.

Take classes that will challenge you but also know your limit so your grades won't plummet. Be well rounded and have a few extracurriculars that you are passionate about.

Roman’s Answer

- identify the schools you wish to attend and the general scores they require for admission
- get good grades
- prepare for the SAT & ACT
- participate in extracurriculars (sports, clubs, etc.)
- take up leadership positions
- prepare for college interviews
- prepare good essays
- keep track of application timelines

If you nail all of these items, then you'll definitely increase your chances on getting into your target schools.

Luke’s Answer

Hi Thomas,

Starting the college application process and tests can seem very daunting at first, To get into schools that you want to attend, you have to focus on your grades, extra circular's, create a well rounded "resume" that colleges can look at you with your test scores and college essays. You want to show off the attributes that make you stand out. My best advice would be to practice for your tests. You can also look at the schools average requirements of accepted students, and try to shoot higher than that for comfort!

Nathan’s Answer

You can get into any college that you want. My suggestion would be bustling down in high school and taking college credit classes in high school that you can and making sure you are getting good grades. You will need to take either the SAT or the ACT so I would suggest preparing for those two tests and getting a good grade on them. Decide exactly where you want to go and look at the requirements to get in and the acceptance rate of the college. Good luck !

M’s Answer

Hi Thomas! This is a great question! Definitely would recommend focusing on your grades. Also, if there is a specific school you want to attend or a program you are interested in, I would recommend that you do your research and look into their requirements. Also, assuming you are in high school, you could talk to your school advisors or counselors, and also talk to any college/university advisors and use them as a resource as well. Good luck, and really do your research and maintain good grades!
