Omar’s Answer

Yes you can make friends while doing so.

What I can understand you want to know if whether you can make new friends in the job or you can still have your old group of friends working together and the good news that you can manage both of them.

Omar recommends the following next steps:

Search for local video editing courses
Get some knowledge on video editing software
Ask your friends to join you
Dedicate 30 min to learn something new about the filming industry
Watch behind the scenes videos for films you enjoyed watching on Youtube

Laura’s Answer

You can make friends as a TV editor! It's harder now that many projects are being done remotely but in normal times, you often work on projects with multiple editors and assistant editors. TV editing is less lonely than film editing, in my experience.

Of course you can make friend when you be a video editor. Mostly, it is a team work. Videographer, producer and video editor. You can share each other's interest and experience.
Also, when you do some project that you have to interview somebody, it's also a good chance to make friends.
