Do you think of certificate of appreciation?

When I do some volunteering work in university, I would receive certificate of appreciation about the activity. I keep them. Could I write them in my resume? #volunteering

Yes, definitely place those certifications on your resume, whether it be in the job summary, education section or under a list of accomplishments. I would keep them as well just in case a Hiring Manager may want to see the actual document. These types of certifications are a great way to show your skills, experience and high performance.

Yes there are a couple of ways that you can explain these certification:
1. If it is for voluntary work you can have a section under work experience that states what you have done on you voluntary job or jobs and specify that you have received a special certification for you work.
2. the other way you can show all of your certification is by having a selected title such as; Awards and Certifications, and then list each of them with name of company, or school, or sporting event and tell the reader why you were lucky to receive this particular award (make it short) EXAMPLE: Award for Newspaper Writer; Best Written Item for the Year 2016; name of school; or Certification for volunteer services; volunteer job at boys club; bane of work place. Don't for to put how long you worked there.
If you have a paid job and received some sort of honor or certification then that could be put with the job experience section and explain why you received it.


This will show the interviewer that you have many interests and that your well accepted and you have been honored for your services.

Hi Ena:

By all means yes you want to include them as part of your resume. I agree with Carole's checklist because this is exactly how my young adults included certificates on their resume. My opinion is that you always want to spell out your accomplishments, achievements, awards, volunteerism, etc. When my young adults went to interviews the interviewer mentioned almost everything on their resume. Based on my experience, my vote is yes include it on your resume. Best of luck to you!

As these are not actual certifications that you're receiving (they're just to say thank you), I would not include them on a resume. A 'certification' means you have learned a skill, been tested on that skill, and passed the test. A certificate of appreciation is NOT that - it is simply a thank you. They're very nice to receive but do not indicate your skill or expertise.
