Evelyn’s Answer

Having worked in the medical field, I can provide some insight into this question. Doctors in general have a high income based taking on a large patient load and level of risk within their chosen field. Doctors can also provide benefit in research, teaching, pharmaceutical, and the animal sciences, among other areas.. Each of these provides a different level of income. As with calculating any income for a job, you have to look at the other benefits that are provided. Contract positions (e.g. travelling health professionals) typically give you a base rate, but do not provide health insurance or 401K retirement benefits, vacation days, etc. It is the entire package and the fit for your lifestyle that should be taken into consideration in making your decision for which path to take.

Carolyn D.’s Answer

Hi Devetra. I don't know about traveling doctors but I do know that traveling nurses make more money than the locally based nurses. Most have stipends, some housing/transportation perks as well.

Blake’s Answer

Hey Devetra,

I was always told that traveling in the medical field has a higher income than non-traveling because it's usually more desirable to be able to stay in one place.

Thanks,
Blake
