Good question Omar - the road to professional athletics (whether soccer, football, baseball, etc.) mirrors that of a professional musician, albeit with fewer opportunities to make the jump. The answer varies based on location -- someone growing up in England has an easier time becoming a professional soccer player due to the number of development leagues existing below the Premiership, whereas in the United States we have Major League Soccer, North American Soccer League, and USL Pro (which has integrated some of the reserve/development league elements of MLS into their own structure).

Some key questions are:
- Are you committed to making your sport your life? Achieving pro status requires daily training, study (even athletes have homework), and discipline.
- Are you playing soccer every single day?
- Have you been recognized locally for conference, division, or league honors?

If the answer is yes -- then it's best to make your goal to play professionally known to your current coach(es). They may have further insight to help you get to the next level. Many sports teams scout high school, college, and semi-pro matches to determine the best

If the answer is no to those questions -- then you'll need to work toward developing deficient areas while honing any strengths. You can also consider another approach. Do you love playing soccer or do you love the game in general? Careers in sports aren't solely limited to playing. Coaching, training, general managing present alternatives, in addition to the normal marketing, financial, and operations personnel required to run a franchise.

Hope that helps!

Muhammad Anwar’s Answer

You will first need to join a soccer club, if you haven't done so. This will allow you to train and play regularly, helping you to build up your skills. At the same time, you need to have a lot of discipline to train on your own, improve on your skills and fitness. It is common for scouts from professional clubs to attend matches between junior clubs in the hopes of finding new talent. That means, you will need to give your 110% at every game cause you will never know who is there to watch you play. If you are good enough, they will offer you a trial so that the coaches can evaluate your talent further.

Its takes a lot of hard work and determination in order to be a professional athlete and even if you passed the trial and sign a contract with a professional club, your success is not guaranteed. Competition is high and you constantly need to be ahead of the pack in order to earn that call up one day to play in front of a full capacity crowd. But if soccer is your passion and your dream, work hard and all the best!
