You honestly need to bring something unique to the table. Take a look at competitors who are doing well in a similar business area, and try to find things that they either aren't doing or could do better. It's also important that whatever product you're selling is in demand, and you believe in it yourself. You have to set yourself apart from competitors in a positive way to gain traction, and potentially take customers to your business rather than another. Stand out, believe in what you're selling, and put 100% effort forward. There is never a guarantee that your business will be a success, but you must do these things in order to have a chance. Not every business will succeed, but there's always a chance, and that's good enough to take a risk if you truly believe in what you're selling. Good luck.

Hi Zyterrious,

I think one of the most important things to remember when managing a business is that you truly have to understand your client or consumer’s needs to be successful. Whether you are selling a product or a service, people are most likely to buy it when they feel they receive a product or service that is better quality than other similarly priced comparable products or services in the market. You should make sure to understand the pain points of your customer and figure out how your product or service can alleviate those pain points. Talk to as many people as you can to try to identify these pain points and to determine what customers generally value most. While it’s not always easy to do, the most successful businesses tend to take this approach. Best of luck!

Running a business isn't for the major majority of people working in business IMO. There are hundreds of skills, tips, pieces of advice that I could provide, but none of them would be helpful just laid out as a list. As you work in business more and more, these concepts all become second nature and new knowledge and experience builds upon these ideas. I would say the majority of successful startups that I have seen were started by people with hands on experience managing projects. Common path is projects related to school, then projects outside of school on your own or with friends, then projects that start to fill a need and provide a small amount of revenue, and then larger and larger projects and eventually ones that could be considered businesses.

!What does it take to start a business?!

Are you smart enough? Are you tough enough? Are you brave enough? Are you stupid enough? To start and run a business. What does it take? If you’re stupid enough, you don’t have to be brave. If you’re smart enough, you don’t have to be tough. Most businesses that fail run out of money before the business can succeed. If the entrepreneur had more money would the business have succeeded? Or would it have just taken longer to fail?

If you do fail, what will it take to succeed at a second business attempt? More money? More guts? More smarts? More luck?
