Liz’s Answer
Hi good morning Melanie S!
My personal experiences with a troubled upbringing # 1 : this made me want more out of life and I wanted to pursue something in which I could make a difference in.
2nd: After becoming a nurse, patients validated my skills, bedside manners, etc.
This is what made me finally REALIZE I was following the professional path that was for me.
I hope this helps out!!!
Take care,
LA

The "medical field" is vast and can include everything from mechanical, tech, IT, and so forth. When I started to look into careers in the med field I did it because "people will always need medical persons." So...find a career in something that will always be around sounded like a good career move. I didn't find a desire to work with people initially and went for Biomed tech. I did not enjoy that and while I was in school I was a rehab tech. I enjoyed the medical/surgical/recovery side of working out. Ended up in school for PTA and just kinda got hooked.

I wanted to know more about biology and healing the body. I also enjoyed teaching and continuing to learn. As a nurse I get to educate my patients and their families daily. I’m also required to maintain my own education and continue my personal journey of learning. Everyday I learn something new. I also enjoy saving lives and providing comfort to my patients.

Elizabeth’s Answer
I thought it was right for me because I enjoyed the sciences in high school. I was surprised however after dental school while in residency at how diverse medicine
is. For example a radiologist does not interact with patients usually. A family doctor interacts a great deal with patients. Surgeons need Excellent hand skills and interact some with patients. For each type of doctor there are different skills needed after medical school is done. Even in dentistry the variation within Specialties is dramatic. It's good to be skilled in biology as you are as a start but there's a Specialty for everyone. You may decide after you get exposed to the different fields.
