I think working in a field and seeing things physically as they exist is great for anyone. Seems like in our world today, we can get away from reality. I started my career out in the field. Wiring houses and businesses for power. I find the electrical industry to be a great field to work in. You get to see your work through to completion. You get to turn on the lights, and as you grow you can take that experience to higher and higher levels. I worked initially for a small electrical shop, non-union, and then when I wanted more than just residential wiring, I joined the an electrical union and gained experience in more commercial power work. I enjoyed working in both areas. Electrical has so many options and components, if you just keep learning and growing, you can really enjoy your work. Don't be afraid of making a change. I started as an electrician and now I am a Telecommunications Engineer. Thirst for knowledge and seek to know why something is done and how to do it right? Don't ever just work! Learn something new everyday, even if it is in another field or just for fun. Knowledge leads to opportunity and future growth. Good luck. I wish that everyone had the chance to work in the field at sometime in their life, because hands on experience really helps in planning and developing better ideas and techniques. Check out businesses and companies in areas where you would like to live and work. Go and visit them, say you are interested in finding out what they do and what they are looking for. Then do it and get the job, but give yourself lots of options, check out as many opportunities as you can, until you have multiple companies and jobs to apply for. Talk to people who are doing a job you are interested in, they will know the best way to get there. Stop by a job site and ask questions, use the answers to find out if they are happy, what they like and dislike. Ask them what they would do if they could?
Thank you, Don!
