Eddie’s Answer

Hi Dillin,

Great question! There are a number of certifications that can provide guidance on learning the concepts required for computer repair. In particular, the CompTIA A+ Technician and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) may be of use to you. Obtaining the certifications will help validate your skillset when it comes to applying to employers in the future. Good luck!

Eddie recommends the following next steps:

Search for the concepts and topics covered in the CompTIA A+ and CCNA certifications.
Contact local computer repair shops in your area for opportunities to work while learning.

Brendon’s Answer

I am certified by IBM for tech support. The quickest way to enter the field would be to get the A+ CompTIA Certification. This is an industry-recognized and accredited credential. Coursera also has great courses about that. Good luck!

Priyanka’s Answer

Hi Dillin!

Courses in physics, math and engineering can help aspiring computer technicians develop their skills. If you are in high school, consider exploring your school's programs to what courses it offers. Sometimes in Senior years there are internships, co-ops and other hands on ways to learn. You will need a high school diploma and then likely a bachelor's degree in the following:

Computer hardware technology
Computer repair technology
PC maintenance
Information technology
Information science
Computer science
Computing and security
Engineering
