How difficult is security?
I've been told it's easy by others, however I want to know what they mean by easy? Because I highly doubt it would be as simple as walking about aimlessly.

Hi Natilius, I'll answer this on behalf of my Father who retired in this field. Kess's answer about it depends where you work is key, working mall security is entirely different from being assigned to a Bus/Commercial vehicle garage, a hospital, corporate park etc. Just think about it this way, the less casual a place is in regards to who can go in and out, with what permissions, or what is stored inside a facility is what can dictate just how serious or intense the job can be. Entry level security tends to have you doing basic duties and not necessarily running a site on your own or even driving a vehicle perhaps, but the job you apply to may very well have that. Consider each opportunity for what it requires and what is best for you.
Your friends who found the job easy may have had locations that made it feel easy, or they are generally organized, are alert in noticing things out of place, and are comfortable making reports. Those are some frequently used skills security officers put to use, so you could imagine that if you hated being held accountable for any of that then this job suddenly becomes very difficult. I hope this helps, good luck!

Similar to Kess' answer, a bit of a non-answer but happy to give you a few more things to think about. I think it greatly depends on what you want to make it out to be. You may be assigned an initial task of "watch this" or "greet people here", etc. However, when I did a short stint in security I found that the more I found ways to insert myself and help out wherever I could, the more I enjoyed the job and the "easier" it became. So you can make it what you want it to be above and beyond your assigned task.

Hello!
I'm sorry but this is going to be a bit of a non-answer.... It depends on where you work. I used to work security at a hospital, my job entailed walking the various buildings and grounds and handling lost & found items. I also answered questions for a lot of visitors. However, hospital security also includes physically restraining violent / combative patients and family members, acting as a mediator, and responding to fire alarms.
Other security jobs can simply be watching for shoplifters or checking IDs at entrance points.

There honestly isn't a one-size-fits-all answer to this because security covers a large working sector with subsectors. In addition, every individual is unique hence, what one person finds easy in a particular field would probably not be as easy for another person. However, you're absolutely correct to think that it's not just walking around aimlessly. It isn't. That would be an insult to the brave security personnel worldwide who are on the lookout daily to keep their respective communities safe. This brings me to the conclusion that security being easy would most likely be a function of talent and ability working hand in hand with the passion to keep your community safe.
