Natalie’s Answer

Hi Jordan, as a nurse practitioner you’ll be educated to the level of a middle grade physician. Course content would possibly include the following;

Anatomy and physiology
Biology
Pharmacology
Law and Ethics in practice
Policy in practice
Assessment, diagnosis and treatment

There will be examinations including;

Medical calculations
Emergency assessment of patients in a simulated environment
Scenario practice
Clinical practice

I hope this helps 🙂

Kess’s Answer

Hello!

Becoming a nurse practitioner takes a few steps. Most schools in the US offering the degree of Nurse Practitioner require that the person already have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and be a licensed Registered Nurse. I would suggest trying for your BSN instead of just an Associate Degree. A BSN will allow you to practice in more areas both geographically and medically.

Kess recommends the following next steps:

Prepare for nursing school - consider taking Anatomy/Physiology, Medical Terminology, Pathophysiology, or Math and English. Depending on which school you are going to attend, tailor your classes to the prerequisites the school requires.
Apply for and attend school for Nurse Practitioner!
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!! YOU CAN DO IT!
Don't forget to apply for grants and complete the FAFSA for student financial aid.

Barbara’s Answer

Explore options for your state at your state board of nursing. They will list the education requirements in your state. Understand also, depending on the state and your education you may be able to practice a a full provider as an NP or you may have to practice under the auspices of an MD. Some states require you to do additional education if you are going to be a prescribing provider. Most NP licenses require and advanced degree (minimum Master's) and some states require a doctorate for a full practicing NP provider.

Thank you comment icon And you will be required to sit for RN and then for Nurse Practitioner Boards to obtain your license. Barbara Hyde
