Hello Cassandra! This is a great age to really start thinking about what you would like your career to be. Becoming a Medical Assistant is a great way to get both clinical and administrative experience. From there then you can really decide which path you would like to take. There is clinical such as going on to become a nurse or physician assistant. Or if you really like training you can also take a look at the training and development side which includes information technology such as electronic medical record training (EMR). There is so much variety it just really depends on where your heart is and what captures your attention. Good luck!

Bailey’s Answer

I was a medical assistant at your age. I was motivated by the providers I worked for to become something more. I started taking classes at night and after a few years I got into nursing school. The toughest part about being a medical assistant at such a young age was that I did not have life experiences. I worked for an OBGYN and I had just become a woman myself and there were so many things I did not know about my body. There were so many things I did not know could happen to a woman’s body. My greatest advice is to stay humble. Learn everything you can. You will probably be one of the youngest people at your job, do not act like you know everything. Continue to grow and learn. Take a lot of notes! You can do this!
