My dad was an electrician. He did have great benefits because he was in a Union. If you join a union, you will have benefits, but you must consider this and ask the union what they offer. Each union is different. I would suggest becoming an apprentice first and going to the meetings to see what type of benefits you will receive. Ask other electricians if they belong to a union and how they got into it. Don't be afraid to ask them any questions you have. My dad loved young curious apprentices. He wanted to share his knowledge with them.

You might also want to be a hired electrician for a private company. In that case, those benefits will be given by the company. You must ask what they are. When you ask, you will gain respect for your maturity and your curiosity.
