This is for Marine Corps. First off, you must have a diploma or GED. They will also administer the ASVAB test that can determine what job you can get, it is just basic math, English, and other simple concepts. You must be able to pass a drug test and a medical exam, this just verifies there is nothing wrong with you medically. Don't lie or try to cheat. Next, you must be able to pass the minimum fitness standards for the Corps (They aren't hard, it's a 1.5 mile run, pullups, and situps). You will also get a background check to verify you don't have a criminal background. If you check all of these boxes, you're all good to go.

You will need to have a high school diploma or equivalent. You will need to be medially screened. You will also need to take the ASVAB, which is a test that measures your aptitude. This test determines which jobs are available to you. This is all before you attend basic training. Speak with a recruiter about specific requirements during basic training, but it is the Navy. You will be in the water at some point.
If you want to have a career as an officer, you need to have a four-year college degree.

Hello Devin -
Each branch of military service has their own standards of enlistment and retention, so you should refer to the branch that you are interested in to understand their specific requirements.
Generally, like any other job, to turn it into a career, your performance has to be good at the specific job that you have chosen. So, it is very important to choose a career field that you think that you might enjoy because a career is a lot of working years.
In addition to job performance, all military service jobs require a certain level of physical fitness; again this varies by service branch. Each branch has their own policies about criminal activity, moral behavior, and drug use, but within each branch there are even more strict guidelines based on career field dictated by security clearance levels.
Research your chosen branch of service online.
Talk to a recruiter about specific jobs and requirements.
Prepare yourself now for your future.

You need good grades to sail through at first. You must be physically fit, mentally tough and psychologically prepared before deciding to join the military.
