When is the best time to start school, I took a gap year since pandemic and I haven't started yet. I have zero idea what to do.
I am a STEM graduate and I took a gap year since 2021. I want to go to an art school but there is no one nearby. I have no job and I want to further my learning but I am stuck.

hello jeanne.
the one thing i would say is taking a gap year is a big mistake. From experience, taking time off can make a person lazy. You always want to keep your mind active and running. Self care is important but just learn how to balance whats important and whats not that important. Taking a gap year is not a good idea. Stay and get it out the way. It will be worth it.

Gap years can be beneficial for resetting your expectations and refocusing on what is important to you - just make sure how you use your time is heavily centered on growth. It is significant that you landed on a pathway and are ready to pursue education related to this area. There are many schools/universities that offer online class options. I suggest doing your research to find a program that may allow you to take some courses virtually. Do this for a semester and nail down if this is your career path. In tandem, start looking at full-time education opportunities that align with your goal and fit your location and budget.
Thank you. I do have some schools online that I have been thinking of going. It was just the courses available in my area is way out of what I wanted to get and I got intimidated and took a gap year. I am somewhat thankful I did though because my mind was such in chaotic state.

Sounds like you made the right decision for you. Just a short story for you - I have a family member that experienced a tragic loss in their family shortly after graduating high school. They took a couple of years to work, focus on family and figure out what was important to them. Today, they are a very successful attorney. The gap year was just what they needed to reset their mindset and goals in life.

Hi Jeanne,
There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with taking a gap year. Its better to take time off, than blindly jumping into a program you know nothing about, or a program you don't even want to be in (That costs alot of $$$ too!) . Take this time to figure out what you want to do for a career, and execute a plan. However, don't take too much time off because you can get comfortable being out of school, best of luck.
