Hello Kenith,
One of the first things you need to do it to think about what aspect of technology excites you and drives you?
Ask yourself:
Do I enjoy the operating systems and user interface?
Would I want to create my own or upgrade existing software?
Do I like to talk to people about technology and get them excited? Would I want to train people or sell technology?
Do I think to understand the inner workings of the hardware? Am I a builder and/or a repairer?
Technology can be far wide ranging but think about what excites you about technology and how you like to interact with technology.

Brainard’s Answer
I would recommend getting started learning the basics of electronics. Electronics deals with electricity so you will want to learn about the fundamentals of Electricity such as Voltage, Resistance, and electrical Current.
Another aspect to begin learning would be the main components that make up electronic devices and circuits such as Resistors, Circuits, Transformers, Transistors and electrical switches.
The next area to learn would be how to read electrical Schematics, all electrical devices will have a Schematic which will provide a map of all the components in an electronic device. Once you can read Schematics, you can learn more about how the electrical components are used to make common electronic devices work.
There are plenty of Circuit building kits you can purchase to get started with building circuits hands-on. Then, you can better understand why electronic devices are built as they are.
I would also recommend seeing if any local electronics companies or electrician companies in your local area offer Mentorship or Internship opportunities. You can learn a lot before joining a Technical or Vocational School. This way you will have a base understanding to help accelerate your learning. Having a formal education in the field along with internships will also help show potential employers that you are ready for the jobs.

Rashon’s Answer
Hello Kenith, my name is Rashon B. I'm an Education Business manager for Microsoft. I manage a group of sellers who evangelize Microsoft's technology and sell technology solutions to educational organizations. When thinking about a career in electronics, first ask yourself, what role in the electronics field would you like to play? Do you want to build, sell, or market electronics? There are many career paths in Electronics. A few are Electronics Systems Engineer, Field Service Technician, Electronic Sales, and an Electrical installer. Whichever role you decide to take, make sure you take time to prepare, research, find courses, certifications, and internships to gain experience. Additionally, to be successful in any field, it will take hard work, dedication, and time. If this is something you're truly passionate about, work towards it every day. I hope this helps. I wish you the best.
Thank you, Rashon!

Keep yourself up to date! Follow the biggest companies in technology and play with their products.
Go to a store and ask all of your questions. Remember that everything is about what the product can do for an individual, person, customer, and yourself. Think about "How would you use it?" "Does it saves me time?" "Is it easy to use?"
This will help you get to the right mindset and figure out what you want to do. Use your answers to determine the following:
Which area around technology do you want to affect or improve? Choose between software/programmer, hardware/engineer, repairing/technician, marketing/promotion, sales/retail or business, etc.
Reach out to a professional and ask for mentorship. Create a relationship were you can get advice for a long period of time. Get advice from people that have or have had the position you want.

Ask yourself if you like science and particularly physics. Electronics is an extremely broad field from electronic devices to controlling the electric current flow etc. If you like the sound of it, pursue a science or physics course. I know people who studied general math or computer engineering courses and specialized in Electronics later. I hope this helps you!
I'm excited to put your great advice to good use!

Luis’s Answer
Hi Kenith, I think this is a great question, I would like to answer it based on my personal experience. I started my career very early in the U.S. Army and though I was not savvy in electronics, I came to find out that passion drives everything. My first time exposed to electronics was as a radio operator while attending training back then. Fast forward to my second career that started in a retail store in USA called Best Buy, I really fell in love with everything electronic. Currently in the organization I work for (Microsoft) as a leader I have broken down the formula into three things to consider on how to succeed in the electronic field. Number 1. Always be a learn it all; Spend time learning about the electronics you will be exposed to or speaking of to ensure you become proficient and efficient. Number 2. Always have a structure that helps you achieve your daily demands; This will help you with organizing your day to accomplish what is asked of you (for example a calendar or a to do list). Number 3. Commitment: Always give 100% effort to whatever you decide to do. Have buy in within your role, immerse yourself into your role, learn your role, and thrive to perform the best you can each day, no matter what happened the day before (each day is a new day). I hope this helps in deciding if this is a field you would like to pursue. Good luck!
Thanks for your encouragement!
