Atul’s Answer

The right course of action is to get a degree in Computer Engineering which consists of Software as well as hardware.
You can also only do Computer Science if it is a purely software game for widely used OS.
I hope you are good in Math and have taken computer programming courses in the high school. This will give you head start if this is something you can do.

Deisy’s Answer

I do not have a degree for video game designing or any of the sort, but have had a class on it. I'd say start by getting familiar with the video game software you would like to use (some are Godot, Game Maker, Unity, Unreal Engine [recommended] and Havok) and learn the basics of video game design by creating a game. It shouldn't have to be a mind blowing piece, since it probably will be your first made game, but if you do decide to go all out, by all means.

From what I learned from my class, you start with making the concepts of the game and brainstorm (I used milanote, but you can used Google Docs, Microsoft 365, Nuclino or Quip). Then start on the video game mechanics and user interface. If you have the model for the pawn in the game ready and animations all set, along with additional things like npcs and objects done, then you can playtest and then refine.
