Your questions: How do you start your own business in designing right after you graduate for college? And how do you find all of the resources you need to start a business, and bring clients in?

My thoughts:
Hello, Mary-Elex,
I am an artist, writer, and healer. And when I started my own business, I had the same concerns. How do I start? Where? How much money do I need to begin? How do I get resources? What I did was look for free help. You can start a business on Instagram, Facebook, and Etsy for free or with minimal cash. One of my friends is an interior designer in San Francisco, and she started with an Instagram account. What you'll need is a great phone with an awesome camera, writing skills, and research abilities. You must take amazing shots of what type of interior design you are great at - so what is your Brand? Branding is your style, your voice, who you are, and what customers will respond to.
The first thing to do is Research!
Find those Instagram pages, Facebook pages, magazine photos, and storefronts that you LOVE.
Find out why you love them. What are you responding to?
Then what would you change or enhance to make it yours?
Follow people in your industry and ask questions.
Take your photos - you can ask friends to allow you to decorate their homes with their own things, but you rearrange them or paint them...
Then take your pics. You can start small with one room and then a whole house. Showcase your work and put out advice on how to change your space with what you already have....slowly build interest. There is a Do It Yourself magazine out there that is a great help for designing - might help.
Then have a room you can dedicate to items you find - thrift store items, garage sales, ask friends to donate things they do not use, dumpster diving....you can find amazing pieces in many places and collect them. Fix them. Paint them. Have fun with your style.
You can do this!
Another route would be to work for a small design store and build your website from there - then go out on your own. That way, you are making money and can save before you start your own business.
And yet another route would be to get a partner....partners help with costs and ideas. Doing something together can be more fun and less stressful than doing it all on your own.
I wish you much luck and success!!!

if you want to have your own business it's all about marketing and word of mouth. You want to build on a good reputation and most importantly listen to your clients. Not all will want the latest. It is a place they will live/work in so you want to make sure they feel comfortable. If they are open to new ideas then share but listen first so you understand their needs and wants.
