Hi Dean!
You may learn Construct Game Engine, or Godot Engine, Blender, Stencyl and Buildbox as a beginner without programming experience.
You may venture into Visual Studio, Python, MATLAB, Scripting applications for game development (programming).
You may do game design using Autodesk Media and Entertainment Collection, using applications like - Maya, 3ds Max, Motion Builder and Mud Box for game modeling, materials, texturing, lighting / shading, rendering, character rigging, animation and effects.
Enroll in Computing (Game Development) course and vendor specific courses as listed above.
Success!

I would suggest finding a local group near your location and if not online about the first steps to becoming a video game programmer. Normally these types of groups have good advice for new people who are trying to break into the gaming industry. If possible, you should try to look for indie studios rather than looking for groups within the triple A industry, since the indie groups will have "better" advice since they had to work independently and start from scratch.

Another suggestion would be to improve your skills for the video game programmer job. Always try to improve these skills because in the end, this is what companies will look for when hiring someone.
