what should a sport management resume look like?

list of requirements for sports management

Thank you comment icon Hey Anthony! While I don't specialize in Sport Management, I would suggest doing a Google search for "sport management resume examples". There are several templates that come up and show great examples of relevant resumes in that field. Raven Gerald

Hi Anthony,

Like most resumes there are various formats or templates you can use. Typically, you'll have your contact information in the header, a mission statement or short statement about what you are pursuing, and then you populate the resume with your career experiences/jobs. Under each job you've had you can bullet point or summarize briefly about what you did and how it makes you a candidate for your next job. You can also include education history and maybe close with three references.

Best of Luck!

Laura M.’s Answer

In a sports management resume, it is critical that you convey your skills and abilities through a lens that is important to those in sports management. I know this may seem 'basic,' but I've seen lots of job seekers fail to take their experience and build a 'bridge' from what they've done to what they CAN do for the employer. The employer can best glean if you are a fit for the job when you offer specific, instead of generic, answers. In other words, tell a story. Give PROOF!

Ask yourself these questions:
- Why will what I've done in the past matter to those in the sports management field?
- How can I best demonstrate that I can do the job they need me to do?
- What skills/abilities does the person in this role need to possess?

BEFORE: "Created marketing campaigns that aligned with the target audience"

Instead, include these three things, whenever possible, to transform your bullets for the better.

Challenge: What challenge were you trying to overcome?
Action: What did I do to overcome this challenge?
Result: How did I make my department/company better?

AFTER: "Reinvigorated stagnant Instagram presence of 1000 followers (challenge) by creating marketing plans that drove engagement (action) with [Sports Team, Company X, etc} and enabled connection between players and fans, driving an increase in traffic to the website, skyrocketed Instagram growth to 9,500, and ticket sales at games (result).

Hope this helps! :)

Laura M. recommends the following next steps:

Take your accomplishment bullets and try to expand on them in the following way
Identify what you were CHALLENGED with
Identify the ACTIONS you took
Clarify the RESULT it had on your employer
Then, pull it all together in one sentence and you have a beautiful bulleted accomplishment!!
