While i echo Pamela's statements, I would also encourage you to take courses that are not determined by your major just to learn something new. For many, college is the last dedicated time to be a full-time student so take advantage of this time by being a student of as much as possible.

Generally speaking, your first couple of years are filled with basic courses required by the college. What you must take will depend on how proficient you are at math etc. Pretests may be taken to place you at the correct level. ( You might even test out of something.) Other courses will be mandated by the field of study you will choose. I suggest looking at a universities courses online and what they offer for your ideal field of interest. Also, talk to students at that school and see what they have taken to cover the basic needs of the university. Some classes can be chosen from within a field like natural sciences. There is a lot you can do online these days. Check it out.
