What do I need to major in if I am interested in working for the Department of Defense or Homeland Security?
I am a junior in high school and I have always been interested in criminal justice and recently I have been curious about the the behind-the-scenes safety of the country.

Hi, this is a very broad question to answer. Homeland sercurity has 7 sub-sections in their agency from Secret Service to Borders Patrol. Both DDS and DHS are Federal Government agencies which means that there will be a exam as part of the placement. Please go to the website and look at the jobs that are currently available and that might give you an idea on what they are looking for in a employee.
Additionally, being fluent in a foreign language would be a key asset in someone looking to work in intelligence. Additionally, computer skills, being a good writer; understanding the history of this country, as well as, the global political community would be helpful.
Lastly, there are schools that are feeders for employment in the federal government. A couple to consider are, Georgetown University and GW University both schools are located in Washington D.C..
Good luck 🍀

Several different majors could be considered depending on what branch within each of your desired employers. Some majors might include:
-Criminal Justice
-Business
-International Studies
-Psychology
-Sociology
Each of these (depending on the University you attend) may have specializations that could help narrow down your choices as well. My suggestion I always give to students is to look at potential jobs you might want after graduation. What kind of degree's do those jobs require or suggest? Any specific experience? This will help give you a better idea about what kind of internships might be helpful as well.
