Bailey’s Answer

Besides helping people, I was drawn to nursing due to the work schedule. I can work weekdays, weekends, nights, or days. Depending on where you work, the schedule changes. A nurse can work 3 days with 12hr shifts, 4 days with 10hr shift, or 5 days 8hr shift. You can also be on-call or pick up extra shifts. I was really drawn to the flexibility of the schedule because I knew I wanted to have a family. When picking a career, also think about work-life balance. What is important to you outside of work?

Chelsea’s Answer

I am so glad I chose nursing! There are so many routes you can take such as inpatient, outpatient specialties, school nurse, travel nurse, primary care, aesthetics, legal consulting, and more. I knew I loved pediatrics so I stuck with that for 7 years and became a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I agree with Bailey that the schedule is a huge benefit. I could go on a week long vacation without taking any PTO when I worked 12 hour shifts! Another benefit is that typically, you don't get bored. No day is exactly the same as the last because you have different patients to care for with different diseases.
