Garrett’s Answer

My recommendation would be to get some exposure to surgery. Ask if you can shadow a surgeon or surgical tech so you see first hand if it is something you would want to pursue. I shadowed my ortho surgeon during high school and it was amazing.

Angelica’s Answer

The Surgical Technology career is an exiting one, lots of new and fun cases. This line of work is very physically and mentally demanding. You’ll be on your feet for hours with no break to sit down, and a good memory and attention to detail is a must. You need a good attitude towards criticism ( not always will be constructive, the OR is a wild place), confidence to advocate for your patient and a thick skin to deal with many personalities and temper. If you feel that you can handle everything I stated above then go ahead and go for it. Best of luck!

Susan’s Answer

I would find out about shadowing a surgeon or a surgical tech. It's an awesome career. But, not meant for everyone. You could be on call and must be available for the surgeon. You will lose family time and personal time. It's a great career. I love it. I "fell" into it, but it was a great fall. It can be very demanding, especially if your on a team. As with every career, you will make sacrifices. But, it is very rewarding.
