Why is the medical field so competitive?

I am senior and since I was young my dream job was in the medical field specifically a nurse practitioner. I have been looking at school this year to apply and every medical college has less than a 10% acceptance rate. If there is an answer to why this field is so competitive I would like to know.

You mention that you are senior, I will assume you are a senior in high school. There are multiple ways to get accepted into a Nurse Practitioner program, but the first step is to become a Registered Nurse. You must be a Registered Nurse to get accepted into a Nurse Practitioner program. Once you are a Registered Nurse, majority of the Nurse Practitioner programs offer online programs for course work, however, clinical rotations must be completed in hospitals, doctor offices, clinics, etc. A lot of Registered Nurses work full time and don't have the time to attend a brick and mortar school, this is one reason the online programs are so popular. The acceptance rate is much higher than 10%. If you have any specific questions I would be more than happy to answer and help lead you into a great career path of Nurse Practitioner. The career is very rewarding.
