If your strength is in natural science like biology, you may be interested in serology and/or DNA. If your strength is in physical science like chemistry and/or physics, you have options such as drug chemistry, toxicology, Trace Evidence, and even firearms. A general forensic science degree, as long as it’s a B.S., should get your foot in the door at crime labs, although some DNA position may require a graduate degree. You should give yourself time to explore different disciplines within forensic science while you take a variety of science courses during the pursuit of your degree. If you are interested in crime scene work, you may want to consider becoming a law enforcement officer instead of a forensic scientist as CSI unit is usually NOT composed of scientists.
