Melody’s Answer

Great question, Briannah. There is no one set way to organize your time. Some prefer to use dedicated scheduling or blocking to keep track of their time. You can see if those work for you as well. Equally effective is target calendaring. Using a calendar or designated sheet to keep track of the most important items such as upcoming tests, quizzes, reports, projects, appointments, deadlines, events and/ or club/sports obligations. Seeing what you have to get done or would like to do will help you decide how much time you will need to schedule around those events. You will probably want to try out different ways of managing your time. It is an important skill used throughout life, but we are individuals and as such have different ways that work best. Just know that you want to stay on top of important items, have plenty of space for adjusting and honor the process (know), not so much the procedure (how) of it.

Lisa’s Answer

Balance school work with having fun. Whenever you start working full time, you might have less time to play!

Lisa recommends the following next steps:

Make a schedule of what you have to get done
Make a schedule to do fun stuff

Matthew’s Answer

Hey Briannah - good question!

The way I balance work with life and school is in hour increments and adjust as you go.

For ex:
6 AM - Wake up
615 AM - Eat Breakfast
630 AM - Change
7 AM - Go to school
4 - 5 PM - Do Math HW
5 - 6 PM - Do History HW
6 - 7 PM - Dinner / Hangout
7 - 8 PM - Do Science HW
8 - 9 PM - Get ready for bed

You can find online templates on Google (https://templates.office.com/en-us/schedules).

If you find yourself getting distracted during HW / study sessions, switch it up! Something like
4 - 5 PM - Sports Practice / Extra Curricular
5 - 6 PM - Hangout with friends
6 - 7 PM - Do History HW
... etc.

You can make your schedule in 15or 30 min blocks or you can do a whole chunk of time like 6 - 8 PM Study Time, whichever works for you.

It takes trial and error to figure out what works but this could be a good starting point.

Hope that helps!

Matthew recommends the following next steps:

Write out on a piece of paper your schedule now and draw rectangles over each activity
Dedicate 1 hour or more/less per activity
Note how long each activity takes so you know where you can spend more or less time on
