How will I know I am on the right path?
I am unsure of what I want to do. For a while I wanted to be a teacher, but now I might want to be a lawyer. Either way, my plan is to major in History.

I would suggest reaching out to people in both your areas of interest. I am sure you can reach out to local teachers or lawyers to ask questions about what they do to see if you are still interested. Some questions you can ask are:
- What is a "day in the life" look like?
- What did they do to get into the field (schooling, voluneteer, etc.)?
- What are some things you can do to start to get into that career path?
You can also do research on what jobs are available. I would suggest going to a hiring website (like Indeed or Monster) and search for jobs in your area of interest. Usually these sites will show similar jobs and usually the description tells you what the job would be responsible for and qualifications for the roles. This will help, if you are interested in that field, different things you could start to do now to get experience like trainings, certifications, internships, etc.
Reach out to local businesses within your interest to ask about the job.
Do job search research from hiring websites to review qualifications and responsibilities.

Hey Camrynn - tough question!
Here's my some context:
I studied marketing in college and thought that's where I wanted to go but I didn't do any internships and clung to the first job I could out of college in sales. I did that for a year and found I dreaded coming to work everyday. I then volunteered my time and thought I wanted to be a fundraising consultant in the non-profit space. Turns out that requires sales skills too so I turned away from that.
During the pandemic, I started learning about day trading like everyone else and got interested in the finance world and investing. Fast forward 3 years later and I'm getting an MBA/MS in finance because I found I really loved the idea of being able to make a ton of money and have a fancy job in Investment Banking.
The point is, try a bunch of things out if you're unsure.
- If you want to teach, try finding volunteer roles where you educate people or train them.
- If you want to be a lawyer, find volunteer opportunities in non-profit law firms to get a feel for the industry. You could also try internships at small law firms to get your feet wet
- If you want to learn about history and you're passionate about it, maybe try finding a role at a museum
You need to try things out to know what you like, don't like, hate, love, can't stop talking about and eventually what's the "right path" for you. For me it's big money with a fancy title. For you... well, that's for you to find out.
