Mila’s Answer

Good afternoon Joshua,

It CAN cost a lot of money to go to school, but it all depends on what school you go to. If you go to a public college or university it will cost less than a private school. A public college is like University of Wisconsin- Madison. A private school is Concordia University -Mequon. Public school could be $10,000 a year where a private school could be $40,000 a year. Public schools could have 200 people in your classroom where a private could be 20-25 people.

This is a question with a lot of variabilities in the answers.

My husband went to a 4 year university on a scholarship. I did most of my classes while I was in the military. We are both now in medical school. He has had to take out loans for his medical school tuition; I'm using my military benefits and probably won't need to take out more than 50,000 or so to finish my degree. Many medical students have about $200,000 in debt when they graduate....

Community colleges are much more affordable and often offer classes that you can jump into a career right after graduation. Think of things like first responders (firefighters, EMT, paramedics, etc).

Hi Joshua,

The cost of school will vary based a variety of factors. Things to keep in mind for schooling would be private vs. public schools and whether you will have scholarships or have to take loans. Student assistance programs (FAFSA) can also be beneficial depending on family income.

A few path people take have been going to a community college for 2 years, earning an associate degree and transferring to a 4 year college with relevant credits that will allow them to graduate in the same time frame (earning a bachelors degree) of someone solely attending a 4 year college but saving quite a bit as community college is known to be a more affordable option.
