Acting takes a lot of practice and honing of many skills but more importantly you need to understand the industry, the unions and representation that is required to even get onto a set. Steve Harvey spent years living out of his car before getting his break, many people spend nights and weekends auditioning spending thousands on representation and self-marketing before getting a commercial. Contrary to popular belief it is a very grueling career.
Do people randomly get their break? Yes.
Is it common? Not at all.
Can you become an actor? Absolutely, just know that it will take a lot of effort and continual tenacity to achieve it. Understanding the path and requirements will put you ahead of most of the stardom seekers out there.

Best Audition for demonstrating your acting skills - is the Mirror !
Try coming up with a scenario where you have to portray different emotions and play it out in front of the mirror.
Make sure to record the play you demonstrate. So that you can go back and look from 'third person's view' . This is the best way to hone on your acting skills.
Once you are confident enough that you are good - take the best video to any casting staff.
Best of luck!
